Canyon Lake Creek Community Forest

Surrounding 45 acre Canyon Lake is the 2,300 acre community forest which includes 700 acres of old growth forest.  This very special preserve contains an amazing variety of tropical plant fossils (Do not remove or disturb).

The lake viewpoint trail is an easy 0.2 miles and the Old Growth Forest Trail is a strenuous 7.5 miles round trip.  This trail winds its way a 4,400ft ridge offering spectacular views of Mount Baker and the Twin Sisters.

DIRECTIONS: Take sunset rd/ Mount Baker Highway east past the #16 milepost  and turn right on to Mosquito Lake Road.  You then drive 1.6 miles and turn left onto Canyon Lake Road.     When visiting Canyon Lake Creek Community Forest please keep in mind that the gat is locked at dusk.

 

North Lake Whatcom Park

This easy 3.1 mile trail is an easy 3.1 miles one way.  Hike or bike as you follow along the shores of beautiful Lake Whatcom on the old Blue Canyon Mine railroad grade.   This is a very scenic trail that takes you along the one section of Lake Whatcom shoreline that isn't accessible by car.

DIRECTIONS: The trailhead is located at the end of North Shore Drive-- which is on the south end of the lake on the east side.
