PORT ANGELES HISTORY

Don Francisco de Eliza discovered the harbor in 1791

Port Angeles WA was established in 1861 and officially became a town in 1862 when Abraham declared it the Second National City.   Like most Pacific Northwest boom towns of the 1800's, the Port Angeles economy was mostly lumber and salmon fisheries.   In 1938 Franklin Roosevelt established the Olympic National Park.
